THE Football Association have launched an investigation into Saints following 'Spygate', with bans to potentially follow for those involved.

The FA is assessing its evidence to determine whether charges should be brought against anyone found to have been implicated in the affair.

The investigation follows the EFL independent disciplinary commission's decision to expel Saints from the Championship play-offs and dock four points for next season.

“We will now investigate and won’t comment further until we have assessed the evidence," said an FA spokesperson.

Saints admitted to spying on the training sessions of three opponents, breaching EFL Regulations 3.4 and 127 in the process.

The teams in question were play-off semi-final opponents Middlesbrough, earlier this month, as well as Oxford United in December and Ipswich in April.

Saints were unsuccessful in their appeal against the sanction, with Boro now replacing the St Mary's outfit in Saturday’s play-off final against Hull.
