Hull City are believed to need to sell players to raise about £6 million before the end of June to avoid falling foul of the EFL's financial rules.
Hull were placed under a two-window transfer fee embargo after late payments to clubs regarding loan fees in 2024/25, when they were also reported to have paid their own players late. They reported a £10.2m loss despite raking in £36.6m in sales, taking the total club debt to £41.7m.
But they still gambled by recruiting free agents on big wages last summer, such as star striker Oli McBurnie, and went on to win promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs. It will mean a guaranteed extra £200m - but their figures for 2025/26 and covering a rolling three-year period must still first come under scrutiny.
Owner Acun Ilicali has now charged sporting director Jared Dublin, the former Stoke City head of recruitment, and transfer chief Martin Hodge with bringing in quick cash by the end of the current football financial year in just three weeks' time.

HullLive reports that there is about a £6m deficit and add: "Should City be in the dock for breaching profit and sustainability rules, then they would be punished, which could see them start the new season in the top flight with a points deduction. Clearly, that would be a nightmare for a newly-promoted team, so the pressure is on.
"City will be keen to avoid being forced into a situation where they have to sell a first-team star in a bid to fall within the rules, especially at a time when there should be significant excitement about preparing for life in the top flight, and the influx of new players from July onwards."
Hull reportedly turned down bids for centre-half Charlie Hughes and keeper Ivor Pandur to push for promotion while their rivals made sure they balanced the books.
The club is expected to be open to offers for players including Mason Burstow, who won promotion on loan at Bolton Wanderers, Abu Kamara, Enis Destan, Abdus Omur, Thimothee Lo-Tutala and Kasey Palmer, as well as David Akintola. It remains to be seen if anyone in the Championship will try to find a bargain.
