The Swans have seen a swathe of players come and go in recent summers, but Matos believes any fundamental changes to his squad will likely damage the work done since he took over.
When Matos took the reins at the Swansea.com Stadium, the club were 20th in the Championship table, and facing up to the prospect of a relegation battle.
They are now pushing to finish in the top half under the former Liverpool coach's guidance, and after a summer that saw 14 players arrive and 16 head out the door, Matos is keen to ensure the foundations of his team remain intact.
"I think we need to avoid that [upheaval]. If not, all the work we've been doing was just for nothing," he said ahead of Saturday's trip to Norwich City.

"So it starts by having all players under contract, which is quite good. That's a massive thing and then it's about having a clear idea in terms of the market.
"The ownership has a really clear vision of what they want for the future. I've bought into that and they've bought into my ideas as well. That was always the common ground
"We had a transfer window with more limitations in January. Now it's a little bit different. Let's see how it goes."
Increasing the depth of his squad is the key ambition for the coming weeks, with the centre of defence, left-back and wide areas likely to be seen as ripe for strengthening this summer given the options available.
"It's not about changing 14 players and getting 14 new," Matos added. "The base is there, the foundations are there.
"It's quite clear we need depth in the squad. That's quite clear for everyone. I think that's something that we need to take care of.
"We are looking at what positions we want to strengthen as well, and what kind of profiles we want. I think that's how it will be. So more important at the moment is to try to improve what we have and I think that's what everyone wants as well."
Some of Swansea's business will likely be in response to departures.
Meanwhile, all of the club's loanees are likely to go elsewhere, and there are question marks over Joel Ward and Paul Farman, both of whom are out of contract at the end of the season.
"Everything is still on the table," Matos said when quizzed on the latest around the out-of-contract duo.
"We will finish the season and then speak about it."
Pressed on whether the likes of Malick Yalcouye and Gustavo Nunes would be saying final farewells to the Jack Army next month, he continued: "So far. That's the plan. Never say never. Everything can change.
"I always think it's like this. In the mind of the players and in my mind you sign a contract for a season. So for this season we are all together. We need to get through the bad moments together and we need to go on the good moments together until it ends and then when it ends, let's see."
In the midst of any planning for the summer, the club are also in the process of looking for a new sporting director, with former Manchester United chief Steve Brown understood to be among those being considered.
WalesOnline understands targets for the summer had already been drawn up shortly before the departure of Adam Worth, but it remains to be seen whether those plans will be acted upon by the new arrival.
Matos fully admits the recruitment process will become smoother when a sporting director comes in, but insists the ongoing search has not put the brakes on any potential summer blueprints.
"It doesn't affect planning," he added.
"When a sporting director comes, it will be just much easier as well because for sure it will be someone to add something."
