The 28-year-old's issue has now been resolved, and a clearer recovery timeline will be determined when players return for pre-season training.

Abraham shared an image of himself lying in a hospital bed on Instagram last Wednesday, accompanied by the caption: "op done."

Signed in an £18 million deal from Besiktas in January, Abraham returned to Villa Park six-and-a-half years after playing a key role in the club’s promotion to the Premier League.

He made 16 appearances during the second half of the season, scoring three goals - including a late equaliser against Leeds at Villa Park and a dramatic 93rd-minute winner against Sunderland in a 4–3 victory.

Abraham did not feature in any of Villa’s final five matches of the season. He was an unused substitute in the four matches leading up to their final-day win at Manchester City, where he was not included in the squad.

Speaking of Abraham’s adaptation at Villa last month, Emery said: "Time to adapt. The level we want to achieve and the level we are. He is a very good player, he has experience in the Premier League but he was in Italy and Turkey.

"Get minutes, of course, play matches and every training session. I believe he can get to his best level with us but he will need time.”
