Tony Mowbray has not finalised his Blackburn Rovers coaching team and says the club won't have 'bundles' of money to spend this summer.

The 62-year-old was unveiled to the media on Monday afternoon and was quizzed on who will be supporting him at Ewood Park.

It has been reported that long-time assistant Mark Venus won't be joining him, whilst Oxford United's Mike Dodds is rumoured to be a target.

There is also question marks around Phil Jones. He was part of the staff under Michael O'Neill and Lancashire Telegraph understands that Sheffield United are interested in taking him to join Chris Wilder's staff.

"Not really (able to say much) because I don't know it myself yet," Mowbray said.

"I would say to you it's a job I'm two days into really. I've been speaking to Rudy (Gestede) a lot and Adam Owen.

"I'm trying to find out what happened. I saw three live games last year, I was finding out why did we finish 20th, why do we have the second least goals scored in the league?

"I'm trying to find the answers, I'm looking at the players, we can talk about various things."

Mowbray's focus instead has been on finding out why Rovers struggled so much last term. He admits there won't be lots of budget to spend on players and so wants to know how he can maximise the squad's talents and trade effectively.

"My view is we need to use this group of players and if there's scope of adding one or two but there's not bundles of cash to spend," he explained.

"I think the fans and I know that but my job ultimately is as we move forward to create a pathway so that we can buy footballers so whether we sell to buy or whether the academy comes along and something special comes out of it.

"I'm watching young Tom Atcheson, what a good player he looked in the last game I saw him, wrapping balls through lines into the number 10s and getting turned.

"As I came Travis and the Wharton brothers and stuff like that, Rankin-Costello, all coming through the Academy.

"Damien was doing the Under-21s when I first got in, I'd go on a night to leave to watch them lads play and ultimately they all ended up in the team and let's hope it's a similar thing that we can build a team with the academy but also with the talent that is here."
