It was Bournemouth’s second home game in Europe, and the second in as many weeks.

After their match with Sturm Graz saw a successful police operation, the force again received positive feedback.

The Cherries emerged victorious with a dominant 3-0 win, but the fixture presented different policing requirements, not least due to a different plan and route for the Milan fan march compared to that taken by the Graz supporters.

The Austrian fans marched from Old Christchurch Road, all the way through Boscombe and to the ground, while Milan fans this week left The George Tapps pub much earlier than their Graz counterparts.

They headed to Bournemouth station, where they caught a train to Pokesdown and then marched from there to the ground, under police escort.

It is understood there was a similar number of police officers present, with more than 150 drafted in from several forces, and the route was discussed and agreed with Milan and their supporters.

Police discussed their preferences for timings and routes before proposing a suitable option, aiming to minimise disruption to the community.

Assistant Chief Constable Lindsay Dudfield, Gold Commander for the operation, said: “This was another memorable night for AFC Bournemouth, and I want to again thank all those supporters, both home and away fans, who enjoyed the occasion in the right manner and behaved responsibly.

“I also want to thank our local community for the warm welcome they gave our Italian visitors.

“There were no reports of disorder related to this fixture and there were no arrests linked to the match.

“We have again received largely positive feedback from residents and those attending the fixture.

“Additionally, I want to say a big thank you to all the officers and staff who worked tirelessly in adverse weather conditions to ensure the safety of those attending.

“We were also grateful to our partners including the club, local authority and blue light partners for their assistance around planning for these fixtures and their support on the night.”

Bournemouth’s next home game in Europe is not until December, when they host Viktoria Plzeň on December 10.
