Albion fans have been giving Fabian Hurzeler tactical advice ahead of the home game with Manchester United.

And it has basically come down to giving the ball to Pascal Gross.

The German midfielder has a great record against United, with seven goals to date.

Fans reminded Hurzeler of that when they saw him at the players’ awards night this week.

The Albion boss said: “A lot of supporters came to me and said, ‘Just give the ball to Pascal’.”

He joked: “There might be a match plan to just give the ball to him and then say, ‘Now it's your turn, you are so successful against United’.

"I think it's always important that a player has a good feeling facing an opponent.

"I think a player like him has this confidence also that he can be a game-changer for us in this game because he proved it in the past and hopefully he can do it one more time."

Gross scored the famous winner at home to United in the final home game of 2017-18 which ensured Premier League survival.

He was on target three months later in a 3-2 win in the first home game of the following campaign.

Gross was among the scorers in the 4-0 rout of United in 2021-22 and scored both when they ruined Erik ten Hag’s home debut by winning 2-1 at Old Trafford at the start of the following season.

He also netted in a 3-1 away win in 2023-24.

Gross also has a knack of scoring landmark goals for the Seagulls.

He got their first (and second) in the Premier League, the survival-clinching winner against United and the third at home to Southampton in 2022-23 which made sure of a European place.

He also hit the opening goal when they picked up their first UEFA point, reducing arrears in the 2-2 draw at Marseille.
