Trundle spent three years on the Robins' books in the late 2000s. The forward made the move to Ashton Gate from Swansea City in the summer of 2007, when the Reds were preparing for life in the Championship having won promotion from League One under Gary Johnson.

As City finished fourth in the second tier to qualify for the play-offs, Trundle scored five goals and laid on two assists for teammates in 35 appearances. However, it is for a goal he scored in the resulting two-legged semi-final clash with Crystal Palace which the Robins faithful will remember him best.

After a late David Noble strike had given the Reds a 2-1 lead in the tie following the first-leg at Selhurst Park, Trundle restored City's advantage in the closing exchanges of the first-half of extra-time in the return fixture at Ashton Gate.

The now-49-year-old's curled finish was followed by a Michael McIndoe goal in the 110th minute as Johnson's side booked their place in the Wembley final, where they were ultimately beaten by Hull City.

Trundle played 19 times in the league for the Robins the following season, either side of a loan spell in League One with Leeds United, before he returned to South Wales on loan in the summer of 2009. He left the West Country upon the expiry of his contract and went on to enjoy spells with Neath, Preston North End, Chester and Marine.

Since coming out of retirement in 2016, the forward has spent a decade or so playing in the Welsh footballing pyramid with clubs such as Trefelin BGC, Mumbles Rangers, Ammanford, Haverfordwest County, Llanelli Town and, most recently, Pure Swansea.

Ahead of the 2026/27 campaign, though, the 49-year-old, who turns 50 in October, has joined Cwmbran Town, who finished second in the Ardal South East League, Wales' third tier of domestic football, last season.

On his latest move, Trundle told the club's website, "I’m delighted to be joining Cwmbran Town. It’s a club with a proud history, passionate people and real ambition for the future.

"I’ve had some fantastic conversations with those involved, and I can see what they’re trying to build. If I can help the players, help the younger generation coming through and play my part in helping Cwmbran move back towards where a club of this size belongs, then that’s something I’m excited to be part of. I’m looking forward to getting started and meeting the supporters."

Cwmbran's manager, Brandon Sampson, added, "We’re delighted to welcome Lee Trundle to Cwmbran Town. Lee brings huge experience, real quality, and has been there and done it across the game.

"He’ll be a huge boost for the squad and the club as a whole. We’re excited to have him with us and can’t wait to see the impact he’ll make this season."

Finally, the club's chairman, Dan O'Connell, said, "This is a huge moment for Cwmbran Town. Lee isn’t just an outstanding footballer; he’s a role model and an ambassador for the game.

"The impact he can have on our younger players, our supporters and the wider club is enormous. His arrival demonstrates the ambition we have as a football club and our determination to continue building something special here.

"We are absolutely delighted to welcome him to Cwmbran Town."
