James Storer 6 - Faced seven penalties during this EFL Trophy tie, with the first two coming during the game itself. Yahya Bamba scored but then had to retake his 59th minute spot kick after he double touched the ball. Then, after a 2-2 draw, there was a penalty shoot out to decide which team received an extra point and Storer saved the first Newport attempt from Michael Adu-Poku as the Pilgrims went on to win 5-4.

Matty Sorinola 6 - Moved to within one match of making 100 total Argyle appearances as he lined up at right-back and was one of the senior players in the side at the age of 25.

Mathias Ross 6 - The only player to stay in the Argyle team from the 2-0 League One win at Leyton Orient on Saturday and captained the side too until he was taken off in a planned substitution in the 60th minute to save him for the visit of AFC Wimbledon to Home Park this weekend.

Jack MacKenzie 6 - Usually a left-back, MacKenzie played the whole game as the left-sided centre-back and given all of his recent injury issues it must have felt good for him to be on the pitch from the first minute until the last.

Jared Rendle 6 - A second successive start in the EFL Trophy, again at left-back, after the 17-year-old made his debut in the 5-1 victory over Crystal Palace under-21s at Home Park a fortnight earlier.

Xavier Amaechi 6 - Came to life after a flurry of Argyle substitutions in the second half, providing the assists as the Pilgrims rallied from a two-goal deficit to draw level through Bim Pepple and Tyreeq Bakinson, who steered home an excellent cross in the 90th minute. Amaechi went on to score for the Pilgrims in the shoot-out.

Tyreeq Bakinson 6 - It was good for Bakinson to get a full 90 minutes after not being able to play against his parent club Leyton Orient at the weekend and his close range finish as the EFL Trophy tie went into six minutes of added time ultimately took it to a penalty shoot-out.

Caleb Roberts 5 - One of two players who Argyle have loaned out to Torquay United but still with the ability to play for the Pilgrims in the EFL Trophy. The central midfielder did not make much of an impact before being replaced in the 72nd minute.

Tegan Finn 5 - The wide left attacker has also been on loan to Torquay but was not involved for them at the weekend due to an injury issue. The 18-year-old struggled to get on the ball and create opportunities for Argyle in the 60 minutes he was on the pitch. against Newport.

Seb Campbell 5 - The 17-year-old had scored in his two previous EFL Trophy appearances for Argyle and playing as a striker against Newport he had one chance to make it three out of three early in the second half when he fired over from a Tegan Finn cross.

Caleb Watts 5 - Led the Argyle attack but did not look particularly suited to that role in such a much-changed Argyle side before he made way for Bim Pepple in the 60th minute. Watts was yellow-carded for a late challenge on Joe Thomas towards the end of the first half which angered the County bench and led to the defender not returning to the action for the second period.

Wes Harding 7 - Replaced Mathias Ross as the right-sided centre-back in the 60th minute and helped give Argyle a solid base to build from as they belatedly took the game to Newport

Oli Irow 7 STAR MAN - The 20-year-old Tottenham loanee really sparked Argyle into life with his direct attacking play out wide on the left for the Pilgrims after he was sent on for Tegan Finn as part of a triple subsitution on the hour mark, and scored empahtically during the penalty shoot-out.

Bim Pepple 7 - On for Caleb Watts in the 60th minute, Pepple went on to score the Pilgrims' first goal in the 75th minute with an excellent one-on-one finish and later had a penalty deep into added time well saved which had it gone in would have won the tie 3-2 for the away side. As it was, he slotted home one of the spot-kicks in the shoot-out.

Bradley Ibrahim 7 - Was sent on for Caleb Roberts in the 72nd minute and he went on to score the decisive Argyle penalty in the shoot-out to decide which team picked up an extra point.

Harvey White 7 - Replaced Jared Rendle in the 72nd minute and helped Argyle control the play in central midfield, with Jack MacKenzie moving to left-back and Tyreeq Bakinson dropping into defence as a result of White's introduction. Was another of the Pilgrims' successful takers in the shoot-out.

Substitutes (not used): Murphy Cooper, Ronan Curtis
