Coventry City’s fellow promoted side Hull City have three weeks to ensure they are not punished for breaching the EFL’s financial regulations.

Sister title HullLive are reporting the Tigers are working to take care of housekeeping by making around £6million in player sales prior to the end of the three-year reporting period on June 30.

With that in mind City owner Acun Ilicali has told his recruitment team to off-load squad players to make sure the Tigers don’t start the Premier League season with a sanction and even a points deduction.

It is not their first brush with the authorities having last summer been hit with a two-window transfer fee embargo, a punishment which did not stop them building a squad that reached the Premier League.

The Tigers were promoted via the play-offs and a dramatic Wembley final in which Oli McBurnie scored a last-gasp winner to give the club access to around more than £200m worth of funding.

Which is probably why Ilicali seems to be playing it cool and is quoted by HullLive as saying "We have overspent, and we have to sell some players before July 1.

"I don't say that it will be very easy or very hard. Now we are a Premier League team, the values (of players) has raised up which is a good advantage. We have some players that know they will not be able to play with us.

"Now we will work on that and solve this problem. It's a new task, and we will manage it. I'm not afraid. We have managed harder things. For us, this is more manageable."

The report names the likes of former Sky Blues play-maker Kasey Palmer as one who could leave, having been on loan with Luton in League One last season.

Mason Burstow, who finished the season as a promotion winner at Bolton Wanderers, Abu Kamara, Enis Destan, Abdus Omur and Thimothee Lo-Tutala are all players who could possibly command a fee.

City are claimed to have also turned down offers for Sky Blues -linked Charlie Hughes, Ivor Pandur and Cody Drameh during the relevant period.

Assuming they can get the MKM Stadium in order they will start the campaign on a level playing field with Frank Lampard’s men, who romped to the title, and Kieran McKenna’s Ipswich Town who returned to the top flight at the first time of asking.
