Alex Neil has not ruled out the return of one or two players for Millwall's game with Derby County but won't rush anybody back for the sake of it. Millwall have endured a terrible injury list which saw them without 12 players at the beginning of September although that has eased considerably since.

Six players missed their 2-1 defeat to Portsmouth at the weekend, but Mihailo Ivanovic made his first appearance of the season after missing the opening two and a half months with a fractured metatarsal. Romain Esse and Alfie Doughty also came on as substitutes.

But Neil is unsure whether he will have any further good news when Derby visit at the weekend.

“I’m not sure there’ll be many more back for Derby,” Neil said. “We’re touch and go with maybe one or two, but I don’t want to say yes, and we get there, and nobody’s back.

“It’s always uncertain when you’re this early in the week. Because we need to see how the training week goes. We need to see how the lads react to it.

“We’re pushing to get people back on the bench and back fit and back in the squad as soon as possible. But what I don’t want to do is do it to their detriment, and then they end up being out longer. Then everybody’s thinking, ‘What are we doing? Why did we do that?’

“But equally, listen, nobody wants the players back on the pitch as much as myself and the fans and their teammates, to get them out there and trying to help us.”

Derby have had their own injury problems to contend with this season, and prior to Saturday's trip to Sheffield United, had 11 players on the sidelines. But goalkeeper Jacob Widell Zetterstrom returned at the weekend, while Max Johnston and Alex Mowatt were also on the bench.

Johnston came on as a substitute after recovering from a knock, but Derby are still without some significant players, with centre-back Matt Clarke and striker Patrick Agyemang among the absentees, although the former was pictured walking out with the players for training yesterday.

Agyemang's return will also be a big boost for Derby, with the striker having been out of action since April due to a ruptured Achilles that he sustained in a win over Stoke City.

Eiran Cashin, Charlie Taylor, Craig Forsyth, Derry Murkin and Lewis Travis are also on the sidelines.
