Hull City want to strike a deal for Aston Villa winger Leon Bailey and believe they can get a move done for the 28-year-old, who has one year left on his contract in the second city.

The experienced Jamaican has been told he can leave Villa Park this summer, having started last season on loan with Serie A giants Roma, before returning to help the Birmingham club win the Europa League in Istanbul back in May.

City have held exploratory talks with their Premier League rivals, but no deal has yet been agreed and there remains significant work to do. The Tigers are, however, hopeful of being able to conclude a permanent deal and feel the player is keen on the move to East Yorkshire.

Turkish giants Trabzonspor and Spanish La Liga side Celta Vigo are both interested, though it's thought Bailey's preference at this stage is to remain in England and City are prepared to give him the chance to get his career back on track.

Last term, Bailey started the season in Rome, but endured a frustrating spell, which was hampered by a flurry of injuries which limited his appearances to just seven, before he came back to England in January.

The right-winger played 13 times in the Premier League last term, taking his tally in the top-flight to 123 appearances and played the full 90 minutes in the final day win at Manchester City.

Since arriving from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2021 in a £30m deal, Bailey has made 163 appearances in claret and blue, scoring 23 goals and racking up 25 assists.

Meanwhile, City had been eying a move for Lassine Sinayoko, but it appears at this stage that the Malian forward is set to remain in France and swap Auxerre for ex-Tigers boss Liam Rosenior's Paris FC.

Defender Matt Targett is expected to join the Tigers after his release by Newcastle United and will link up with the squad in Slovenia. So too could Elliot Stroud, after he played 90 minutes in Mjällby's 0-0 draw with Vasteras SK on Saturday night. Oscar Zambrano will join Sergej Jakirovic's squad out in Maribor, while it's hoped the deal for Olympiacos goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis will be completed this week.
