# Hull City eyeing £20m midfielder in major transfer boost for Sergej Jakirovic

Hull City are showing interest in Burnley midfielder Florentino Luis, just weeks after he completed a £20.8m move to the relegated Clarets, Hull Live understands.

Luis was one of Burnley’s stand-out performers last season, despite their relegation back to the Championship, but could become City’s latest summer arrival as they prepare for life in the Premier League if they can agree a deal with the Clarets.

Last term the Portuguese ace was on loan at Turf Moor from Benfica and his move to Lancashire was made permanent earlier this summer, as part of an obligation in the temporary deal which brought him from Lisbon, but the Tigers are keen to tempt him with the chance to stay in the Premier League.

Last term, the defensive midfielder made 31 appearances and claimed two assists in the win over Leeds United and the draw at Liverpool. Prior to his move to Burnley, he claimed an assist for Benfica in the Champions League qualifying win over Nice, before picking up two yellow cards in the next stage draw with Fenerbahce to miss their second leg victory.

Capped at every level for Portugal through to Under-21 level and winning the Under-17 and Under-19 European Championships, Luis has vast experience playing in Portugal’s Premiera Liga, Ligue 1 in France with Monaco and in Spain’s La Liga with Getafe.

He’s also amassed 24 appearances in the Champions League, whilst helping Benfica win the league title in 2019 and 2023, as well as the league cup and three Super Cup wins.

It’s hoped the Tigers can tempt Burnley into sanctioning his departure, which would see him join Japanese star Hidemasa Morita in coming in to bolster Sergej Jakirovic’s midfield options.
