Liam Millar says attention for now is on trying to deliver a second consecutive promotion with Birmingham City, rather than what happens next in his career.

After scoring the winner for City at Coventry City in late August, their last victory, Millar moved on loan to St Andrew's for the season, and has enjoyed a stellar start to life.

The Canadian winger has bagged four goals and three assists in seven appearances so far, including three in the last three home games for Birmingham.

That electric form has seen fans of the second city club urge him to join permanently next summer, while some Tigers fans have suggested he should be recalled in January. Boss Chris Davies has made no secret of his desire to keep the former Liverpool youngster, having finally been able to snare him after previous failed attempts.

Hull Live understands that it will not be possible, given there is believed to be no recall clause inserted into the agreement, which took the 27-year-old from the MKM Stadium to St Andrew's.

Millar, though, says his complete focus remains on the job in hand, which is helping deliver a return to the Premier League for Birmingham, who are going well at the top end of the Championship.

“I’m really enjoying it,” Millar told Birmingham Live. “I’ve had a great time here, and my family loves it here. But I’m being honest with you, my full focus is on helping Blues get to the Premier League, and we’ll think about what happens after that. I’m very happy. I’m doing well, and I want to keep that going. I want to do everything I can to help Blues get to where we all want to be, and I’m going to keep fighting every day for that.”

During the international break, Millar played three times for his country, and he admits the travelling and intensity of the game caught up with him, though it didn't seem to impact his form.

“West Brom was tough. I was really tired at West Brom, I think I had about three hours' sleep before the game, so I was struggling a little bit. I tried my best to do the best that I could that day. Even against Preston, I was still a little bit jet-lagged, but I tried to do my best, and I started to feel better (against QPR).

“It’s difficult travelling around the world and being in different time zones and being on so many flights, but that’s part of being an international footballer, and you’ve got to be able to deal with that. I’ve been doing it long enough now to need a week to 10 days, and then I’ll be alright.”

Millar, who played his part in City's remarkable promotion last season, believes there are comparisons that can be made between the Tigers of last term and the Blues of this.

“I see a lot of similarities with this Blues team to what I saw with Hull last season," he continued. "We’ve got to keep a mentality of trying not to get too high or too low and ride it out.

“The Championship is so up and down, there are going to be spells where you’re amazing and win three, four, five, six in a row and you might then go through a spell where you lose two or three, it’s about riding those waves and while you’re playing well, making it last as long as possible.”
