Hull City are the latest club to be linked with a move for Middlesbrough star Hayden Hackney, as speculation grows about the highly-rated midfielder's future on Teesside.

The Boro man, who came off the bench in the final stages of the Championship play-off final defeat against City, is widely expected to leave the Riverside Stadium this summer, provided willing suitors meet the asking price.

That asking price is thought to be in excess of £20m for a 23-year-old, who was named the Championship's best player as Boro twice fell to defeat in the end-of-season play-offs.

City are admirers of Hackney, but any move for the Redcar-born ace remains unlikely at this stage, with established Premier League rivals Crystal Palace and Everton leading the race for his signature, and the Tigers likely to look elsewhere.

Boro want to keep Hackney at the Riverside Stadium to spearhead their challenge for promotion next season, but with only one-year left on his Teesside contract, a sale looks the likely option.

Palace and Everton have joined a host of other clubs, along with Nottingham Forest and half of the Premier League, in keeping tabs on the dynamic midfield general.

The Times claim Hackney prefers a move to Everton, with it suggesting David Moyes' outfit is set to submit a fresh £15m bid, having already seen one offer turned down. The Mail, meanwhile, say Europa Conference League winners Palace are also going to lodge a formal bid in the near future.

City, who are preparing for their first foray into the Premier League in a decade, are expected to bring in as many as 10 or 12 new signings, and adding in the midfield is one key area of focus for the club this summer.
