Drameh was expected to leave the MKM Stadium in the winter transfer window, with Stoke City among the clubs keen, but injury scuppered those hopes, and he remained at Hull City into the New Year.

The former Leeds United full-back had an audience with Jakirovic and members of his coaching staff where discussions over his future were held, and it proved a key turning point.

Owing to injuries sustained by Ryan Giles, Akin Famewo and Matty Jacob in recent months, Drameh had reestablished himself as a regular in the starting XI, before injury trouble hit him again and he was forced to miss the remaining weeks of the regular season, prior to his return in the final.

Having already missed a chunk of the campaign with a quad injury, the former Leeds United full-back suffered the same injury in the opposite leg at Bramall Lane, which cruelly ended his hopes of playing a part in getting City into the top six and robbed Jakirovic of a player in form.

"We had just an honest conversation," Jakirovic told Hull Live. "I said to him how I see the situation, he said to me his reasons, and then we agreed that everything is good if he stays and fights for his place, which is, in the end, like this."

What happens with Drameh beyond the end of this season remains up in the air, with the Tigers needing to raise funds to avoid being hit with a Financial Fair Play punishment and now preparing for their return to the Premier League. Jakirovic, though, is keen for the window to close before the season gets underway.

"God knows who will stay in this club, not that we are a bad club, but you know, transfer window, it's too long, too long this whole summer. We need to cut this transfer window to July 31st," added the City boss.
