Former Premier League striker Kevin Phillips believes strengthening the spine of Hull City's team is their biggest challenge in the transfer market this summer.

Phillips says bringing in help, cover and competition for talismanic striker Oli McBurnie should be high up on City's agenda, as well as defender and midfielder

McBurnie spearheaded City's sensational promotion campaign, with two goals to see the Tigers finish in the play-offs, before his 95th-minute winner at Wembley propelled the club back into the Premier League.

The 29-year-old frontman is desperate to have another crack at the world's biggest league, and wants to add to his 96 appearances earlier in his career for Swansea City and Sheffield United, but City know they must bring in support.

"Down the spine, and then you build around that. I think they need another striker. I think Oli McBurnie has done fantastic last season, but it's a big jump to go to the Premier League and do the same, Phillips told BestBettingSites on behalf of Hull Live.

"So I certainly would be looking in that area to bring someone that's going to challenge him and also someone that's a bit of a proven goal scorer, maybe someone that knows the Premier League as well.

"And, just again, spine of the team, potentially people that know the Premier League because it's such a big jump. So I would go again, a centre-half, a midfielder, and certainly the biggest one for me would be another centre forward."
