# Abdul Fatawu releases emotional statement after completing Leicester transfer

It was confirmed earlier this week that Fatawu had left City to complete a permanent move to newly-promoted Premier League outfit Ipswich Town.

City reached an agreement on a £20million initial fee with Ipswich for Fatawu, with the deal also including a further £3million in add-ons.

Fatawu has now taken to social media to send a message to Leicester fans to offer his appreciation for their support during his time at the club.

“Dear Leicester City Family, as I leave Leicester City Football Club, I want to express my deepest gratitude to everyone who has been part of my journey,” Fatawu wrote on Instagram.

“This club gave me the opportunity to come to England, prove myself and show what I could do. From the first day, I was welcomed with open arms and made to feel at home. I will always be grateful for the trust, support and belief shown in me.

“To my teammates, coaches and every member of staff, thank you for helping me grow as both a player and a person.

“To the incredible supporters, your passion, love and encouragement meant more to me than words can express. Playing in front of you and celebrating special moments together will remain among my greatest memories.

“Leicester City will always hold a special place in my heart. I leave with pride, gratitude and unforgettable memories.

“Thank you for giving me the opportunity to prove myself in England. I wish the club nothing but success for the future.

Fatawu’s exit was the latest departure that Leicester have been forced to deal with this summer following their relegation to League One.

Jeremy Monga completed a permanent move to Manchester City earlier this month in a deal believed to be worth around £12.5m.

Monga’s switch to Man City was the most expensive departure from a League One club until Fatawu’s move to Ipswich broke the record once again.

New manager Russell Martin will now be tasked with preparing the Leicester squad for the start of the League One campaign, which will include pre-season friendlies against Malaga and Genoa.

That will all be the build-up to Leicester’s first round match in the Carabao Cup against Northampton Town on August 8, before taking on Notts County in their League One opener a week later on August 15.
