# 'Top six by January' - Leicester City told Russell Martin alternative

Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony has told Leicester City to turn to Darren Ferguson should they decide to part ways with Russell Martin.

Martin has struggled to get results at City since being appointed as manager in the summer. Leicester currently sit 17th in League One, just one point above the relegation zone, following last weekend's loss to Peterborough.

Pressure has mounted on the City boss, but Martin isn't expected to be under severe pressure just yet. However, another defeat at home to Doncaster Rovers on Saturday could put him under serious scrutiny.

Speaking on his Hard Truths Football Podcast after Peterborough beat Leicester, MacAnthony admitted he would love to see Ferguson, who has managed Posh on four separate occasions, get the job. Ferguson, the son of Sir Alex Ferguson, was linked with the Leicester job in the summer.

"I know this sounds like I'm vouching for Darren, but I wish he would get an opportunity that some of these managers get and Darren never has," he said.

"His record in League One, his record on playing style and his record with young players, success and all of those things. If Russell moves on and they need a plug-in-to-play, you get in your car, Darren lives around 45 minutes away, and you get him in.

"I guarantee you, seeing their squad and whatever else, he would have them in the top six by January, without a doubt."

Despite putting Ferguson's name forward, MacAnthony backed Martin to be the man to turn things around at the King Power Stadium. "I still think Leicester will be up there, as mad as that sounds with them 17th, I think everyone's getting their knickers in a twist in who is first, 17th, 20th, whatever," he said.

"I seriously think Leicester have the squad and resources, if they get sold as well, they could win 15 games in a row. I said this previously at Southampton, when he had a horrible start, watch when it clicks.

"It's the time that he's going to get given, they've got Doncaster next, they're going to have to win that game from the anger and toxicity inside the stadium. He's got a strong stomach for this stuff because he went through it at Rangers and now at Leicester.

"I looked at that [Leicester job] in the summer, Leicester's a dream gig. I so wish Darren Ferguson got that job, but Leicester's a great gig. Whoever gets that job right, and hopefully it's Russell, will go bang, bang, they will win promotion and go again - little bit like Ipswich.

"They are a giant club for our level, it was a big club years ago when they were at our level before, but it's even bigger now, they've won the Premier League and FA Cup and been in the Champions League. That is a magnificent job, you can't turn it down."
