The penultimate fixture of the summer was always going to present City with their toughest challenge of pre-season, with Malaga fresh off the back of earning promotion to La Liga just last month. Jayden Joseph received the nod to start at right-back with Caleb Okoli and Ben Nelson continuing to play together at centre-back.. Oliver Skipp started in the six with academy stars Sammy Braybrooke and Louis Page playing ahead of him. Will Alves and Stephy Mavidid took up their place out wide, with Kirsten Otchere starting up-front again. It was Leicester who started on the front foot, with their fitness levels showing early on. Alves had the game's first opportunity when Braybrooke played him through, but goalkeeper Carlos Lopez denied him from close range. Just before the water break in the first half, the Foxes took a deserved lead courtesy of Page's goal from a corner. The midfielder's teasing delivery beat Lopez and landed in the bottom corner. Malaga changed to a much stronger XI in the second half and applied pressure immediately after the break. Jakub Stolarczyk pulled off two superb saves to keep the La Liga side out before their pressure finally paid off. Substitute Conor Chaplin found himself in more dangerous positions with Riley Carr causing issues down the right. In the second half, he was caught out with balls behind him. Worked well with Ben Nelson and showed more encouraging signs of improving with the ball at his feet. Went down with a problem early in the second half before being replaced by Harry Souttar. Played the ball out of play early on but was strong in his duels. A tough test for him but he was superb throughout. So good in the first half but struggled with the physicality of Malaga’s press in the second half. Came into central areas later on and looked comfortable on the ball. Made some tackles in the middle of the park that helped Leicester win possession and catch Malaga on the counter. Second half performance dipped in quality as Malaga began to dominate. Sammy Braybrooke Involved in plenty of attacks for Leicester down the centre of the final third. Ran forward with the ball well and made the correct decision when needed. Responded to the press well in the second half. Very good performance in the first half with some impressive runs and dangerous drives towards goal. Malaga's press in the second half made it difficult for him to get on the ball before coming off. Started the contest with confidence and a desire to drive at his full back. Had two opportunities to score in the first half and was so unfortunate with the second chance after lifting the ball over the goalkeeper. Looked like City's best threat in the closing stages. Stephy Mavididi Looked so dangerous in the opening 45 minutes, beating his full-back three times. He wasn't given any fouls when he was clearly brought down and he seemed to get frustrated by the referee. Kirsten Otchere Conceded possession inside City's half but tracked back. Quiet game for the striker but he once again held himself well against some physical defenders. Jakub Stolarczyk (for Alex McCarthy) Pulled out two outstanding saves inside the first 90 seconds of his time on the pitch. He couldn't keep Chupe's goal out and Malaga's second was just a good goal. Harry Souttar (for Caleb Okoli) Brought some physicality to Leicester's defence in a period they were struggling against the Spanish side. Woyo Coulibaly (for Luke Thomas) Played at left-back and left wing. Took his goal well and showed incredible feet to get down the line. Riley Carr (for Oliver Skipp) Rapid down the wing and got chance to shoot numerous times. Had opportunities to hurt Malaga but was brave to try his luck. Bade Aluko (for Jayden Joseph) Another decent display at right-back. Strong in challenge and drove forward, centrally, on a number of occasions. Conor Chaplin (for Sammy Braybrooke) His positioning after the hydration break caused so many problems for Malaga. Looks so good when driving forward. Bobby De Cordova-Reid (for Kirsten Otchere) Played as a striker who came deep and interchanged with Conor Chaplin. Worked well and his pressing was spot-on. Made an impact but did give the ball away for Malaga's leveller. Hamza Choudhury (for Louis Page) Played in three positions. Started in the eight before returning to his usual defensive midfielder role. Won the ball at right-back and left-back. Tommy Neale (for Stephy Mavididi) So good again, playing further forward than usual and didn't look lost. Took his goal so well and helped Leicester press Malaga high.
