According to Fabrizio Romano, contact between Madrid and Leipzig began earlier this week before the bid was submitted. Leipzig, however, value Diomande above €100m (£85m), and talks are expected to continue with Paris Saint‑Germain also yet to find an agreement with the German club.

Reports in Germany suggest Leipzig could demand €120million (£102.5m) this summer, as Arsenal and Manchester City also circle. A bidding war may be on the horizon, though other reports claim Diomande has already agreed terms with PSG until 2031.

Madrid may face fresh competition, with PSG yet to lodge a formal offer, but Diomande's camp are pushing hard for the French champions to get a deal done, hoping to avoid another club swooping in.

However, they now have serious pressure from Madrid, with Jose Mourinho personally approving the move.

Romano adds that Mourinho has told the Madrid board he wants 'even more speed' and fresh legs in attack, with Diomande viewed as the perfect fit.

As for Liverpool, they are exploring long‑term successors to Mohamed Salah, though it's unclear whether they'll go anywhere near Leipzig's valuation.

Salah left Liverpool on July 1 after agreeing with the club to terminate his contract a year early.

The 34‑year‑old departs as a modern‑era great, having scored 257 goals in all competitions and playing a central role in the side that won two Premier League titles and lifted the Champions League during one of the club's most successful periods.

Leipzig are keen to extend Diomande's contract beyond 2030, but when asked about his future, he admitted he does not see his long-term future with the Bundesliga side.

"I expect to leave the club," he said.

So far this summer, Andoni Iraola's side have already wrapped up a deal for Spain international Victor Munoz and are now eyeing further attacking reinforcements as they continue to build for the new season.
