The Reds are unbeaten in all competitions but have won just twice in the league, against Ipswich Town and Bournemouth. Iraola is still getting to know his squad, with several fringe players yet to be given an opportunity.

One such player is Federico Chiesa, with the latest reports linking the Italian with a departure in January. Rio Ngumoha is among those who have been handed opportunities by Iraola, and the youngster has opened up about a private conversation he had with Liverpool legend Mohamed Salah.

The Italian international managed just two Premier League starts across two seasons under former manager Arne Slot after completing a move from Juventus in the summer of 2024. Despite speculation surrounding a potential exit this summer, he insisted he was keen to remain at the club and battle for a starting berth under Iraola.

"Right now, at the moment, I am happy here at Liverpool," Chiesa said. "I love the club, I love the fans, I love everything. I am doing the best I can to have a chance here. And then we will see. At the minute, the only thing I am thinking about is Liverpool.

Yet the Italian winger has not managed a single appearance for the Reds this season, having been sidelined through injury. He was also omitted from the club's official 25-man squad for their Champions League campaign, indicating his future at Anfield is now hanging by a thread.

Ngumoha has spoken candidly about the guidance he received from Mo Salah prior to the winger's departure from the Reds this summer. Ngumoha etched his name into the club's history books as their youngest ever scorer when he netted a late winner in a 3-2 victory over Newcastle United in August 2025, aged just 16 years and 361 days.

The 18-year-old has since pushed on by securing his first senior England cap, while also making five appearances for the Reds this season. Undoubtedly a dangerous presence out wide, Ngumoha has nevertheless struggled to rack up goals and assists, managing two goals and one assist across 35 senior outings for the club to date.

The youngster revealed how Salah urged him to sharpen up that aspect of his game. "The player who I probably learned the most from is Mohamed Salah, when he was at Liverpool," Ngumoha said.

"He taught me a lot, especially towards the back end when he knew he was leaving. He helped me a lot. Like he always says about looking at his numbers and he was always telling me, 'Rio, you know you're a good player but to reach the top, you have to add the goals and assists.'

"And it will come naturally but he was just going through little things like that [with me]. When he first started [talking to me], it was like, 'Wow! I've been watching you since I was young and you're telling me how to [improve]. Like, you're helping me and you're guiding me.'".

"But then over time, I saw him as a very good team-mate and he was helping me a lot, so I can't thank him much more."
