Michael Carrick's men are the newest club to register an interest in the Dutchman, who announced himself on the World Cup stage with a goal on Sunday during an enthralling 2-2 stalemate with Japan in Dallas.

Summerville's reputation has soared considerably since January, when Tottenham also weighed up a move for the former Leeds United winger.

Nevertheless, several clubs including Champions League champions PSG are now looking to exploit West Ham's predicament and are hopeful of securing a cut-price agreement.

West Ham insiders insist that won't be happening and they are content to wait until after the World Cup before entering transfer negotiations.

There is, however, a recognition that retaining the player this summer will prove challenging, though they won't be rushed into a hasty sale — and the same stance applies to fellow United target Mateus Fernandes.

Both players have seen their wages reduced due to clauses within their respective contracts following West Ham's relegation, yet both are still anticipated to depart.

The club's new largest shareholder Daniel Kretinsky has asserted that the Irons have no obligation to sell their most valuable players, and there remains a possibility that captain Jarrod Bowen could remain and feature in the Championship next season.

It would require a fee in the region of £45million to bring West Ham to the negotiating table over Summerville, while Portuguese midfielder Fernandes is valued at approximately £80m amid reported interest from Real Madrid and Arsenal.

The Gunners won't be meeting that valuation and have stepped back over recent days, leaving United as frontrunners provided Real Madrid do not enter the race.

Tottenham are seeking a new winger for Roberto De Zerbi and informal discussions are presently ongoing with Manchester City regarding a transfer for Savinho.

Liverpool are also pursuing a new left-sided forward and previously monitored Summerville back in 2024 but it remains uncertain whether they will join the competition.

United do also have several other alternatives under consideration including Iliman Ndiaye and Morgan Rogers, according to reports.
