# Man United confirm transfer for young star after injury changes plans

Kone did actually spend half of last season on loan with the Swiss Super League team. He linked up with the INEOS owned club in the January transfer window, where he featured in five league games.

After starting only one match, injury brought an end to his campaign and restricted his opportunities to feature. With this in mind, United not only agreed to loan him to the club again, he remained there for the summer, where he has spent the opening weeks of the pre-season.

It was confirmed today he will remain with Lausanne-Sport for the 2026-27 campaign. United confirmed the news in a statement released on the official club website, which said: "Manchester United youngster Sekou Kone has agreed to join Lausanne-Sport on loan for the 2026/27 season, subject to registration.

"The Mali youth international spent the second half of last season with the Swiss Super League club, gaining valuable experience in senior football. Having made a positive impression during that time, Sekou is now returning to Switzerland to continue his development.

"The midfielder joined United in August 2024 from Guidars FC in his homeland. Lausanne finished ninth in the Swiss Super League last season.

"They hope to progress this term following July’s appointment of new head coach Luka Elsner. Everybody at United wishes Sekou the very best of luck for the campaign to come."

United manager Michael Carrick has already made it clear he will be watching all of United's youth players throughout the season. In a recent press conference, the United manager, after watching the Under-18s side overcome Oxford United in the FA Youth Cup, said: "Yeah, it was good. I enjoyed it.

"We went down, there was a number of the staff that went down and yeah it was always something we were trying to do and as much as we can, we'll do that in between our fixtures. In the Youth Cup, I've got great memories personally of the Youth Cup when I was younger.

"[It is] such an important competition and so for us to go and watch, it's good to get our eyes on some of the younger players and how they're doing. For them to feel that connection.

"I was really pleased with Colin [Little] and Fletch [Darren Fletcher] and the boys and I thought they played really well in tough conditions, actually. So to get a good result and move on was a good night."
