The touching tributes for the former player and manager, who died after a battle with stage four cancer 'surrounded by his wife and daughters', have massively grown in number every day since his passing. The club asked fans to leave tributes at the South West corner of the stadium, and they have turned out in their droves.

The crowds of those who wanted to pay their respects for one of football's true greats included current manager Eddie Howe and player Jacob Murphy, and former Magpies including Peter Beardsley, Steve Harper, and Shola Ameobi, to name just a few.

The conversation continues as to how best to memorialise 'King Kev', with the general consensus seeming to favour a statue outside the stadium, akin to those for Alan Shearer, Sir Bobby Robson, and Jackie Milburn, while a stand could also be renamed after the legend.

Keegan, who managed the great 'entertainers' team of the 1990s, famously finished second in the 1995/1996 season, during which he delivered his impassioned "I will love it if we beat them" interview. He was universally adored for his exciting, attacking football, a return to Tyneside after a two year stint as a player from 1982 to 1984.

In 2008, Keegan made another brief return to the top coaching job in the city, bringing fans joy with his presence alone. With the sad news of his death causing shockwaves around the footballing world, it is no surprise to see the extent that people have gone to show how loved he was.
