# Newcastle must avoid 'inconsistent' Marcus Rashford after World Cup problems

That's the verdict of ex-United and England star Chris Waddle, who has been left unimpressed with Rashford's contribution at the World Cup.

The forward's future remains uncertain after he returned from a successful loan spell at Barcelona last season, with the Old Trafford club open to offers for the 28-year-old.

Barca signed Anthony Gordon from Newcastle and look unlikely to offer Rashford a permanent deal, while Newcastle have signed Ivory Coast youngster Bazoumana Toure.

While he may not cost a fortune in terms of a transfer fee, he is likely to demand wages that would outside of Newcastle's budget, something which Waddle feels makes him a no-go for Magpies.

"I think Marcus Rashford would be out of Newcastle’s price bracket with his big wage demands," he told OLBG. "He hasn’t performed well at the World Cup and has always been an inconsistent footballer.

"We know he is a good player, we saw him on fire for Manchester United the season before he left, but he's always been inconsistent.

"While the £30m price tag is accessible, his wage demands would be massive, so I don't think Newcastle will go down that path."

Rashford scored twice for Barca in their 2-1 Champions League win over Newcastle at St James' Park last season.

However, he only featured for the final minutes in the 1-1 draw on Tyneside in the knockout stages, and didn't come at all as the Catalan giants won the second leg in the Nou Camp.
