Trippier announced that his time at Newcastle had come to an end in April just days after admitting that "anything could happen" on his future in a Newcastle United Press conference in Barcelona ahead of the Magpies' Champions League exit.

But what has been striking about 35-year-old Trippier's unveiling at Wolves is that the full-back has signed a two-year deal.

It's believed that such an option was never really on the table for Trippier at Newcastle, as all parties agreed amicably that it was better to go for pastures new.

Notably, Newcastle only handed Fabian Schar a one-year extension with the club making it clear they are looking to the future.

Wolves boss Rob Edwards said after landing Trippier: "We know what we’ve lacked this year, and we know what we need next year – experience, leadership, resilient characters and strong characters – that’s what we’re going to need in abundance, and Tripps ticks every box.

"From quality to experience to leadership to know how, and he also has a real hunger. He wants to help us get promoted again, and this is really something for us to achieve.

"He did have good options elsewhere, so for us to be able to get it over the line and get him in is a real coup. But it shows what a big club we are.

"We are a big draw and building on the Andre news, I don’t think we could have had a better start to the summer with what we’re trying to do."

After completing the deal, an ecstatic Trippier said: "I am delighted to join Wolves, a new chapter and one I’m ready for. I’m looking forward to working with the team, and giving my all on the pitch.

"I can’t wait to meet the fans and play at Molineux"

On leaving Newcastle, Trippier said in April: "The time has come to leave this amazing club after four-and-a-half years. This is where I have felt most at home. It's emotional, and I'm really going to miss it.

"I want to say a massive thank you to the supporters for all the support through the good and the bad times. You've always supported me, always stood by me.

"To my teammates, it's going to be emotional. It's been an amazing journey with you guys. I'm going to miss you all, but to win a trophy with you guys was really, really special - the best of my career.

"And to the manager, Eddie Howe, all the coaching staff and the team behind the scenes, a massive thank you. The gaffer had the trust - twice - to sign me, gave me the opportunity to represent and captain this great club and most importantly, we managed to win a trophy."
