# Neil savours stand out Millwall win against old club

Neil led the Lions to within a point of the Premier League last season before a heart-breaking play-off exit to Hull City.

But the manner in which his team swept aside the Canaries marked a new high point.

“I thought it was a complete performance from us,” he said. “I think it's probably in the last, I don't know, that I've been here nearly 20 months the most complete.

“By that I mean to do it with four new lads that I've just sort of recruited in the summer. I think to do it against a good Norwich team who are well-coached, that have got good players, and I think to do it in a manner which we did it, I thought were the best team from minute one to the last minute.

“There should have been more in the first half.

“It should have been probably 3-0 and that would be a fair reflection, and then to come up again in the second half. When it is 1-0, those are the sort of scorelines which are always fraught with danger, if you like.

“I thought we turned the screw and we got what we deserved.”

Philippe Clement felt Neil’s side had ‘bullied’ the visitors.

“I thought we were more than that,” he said. “We've bullied teams here before, where we've maybe played on top of them, pressed them really well, and the press has been good.

“What I thought we did in this game was we had the balance between playing, and they couldn't get the ball back, and pressing when they hit the ball.

“In football, there's only two aspects: what you do when you've got it and what you do when you haven't got it.

“And I thought both of those aspects were excellent. Probably a criticism in the past is can we keep the ball as well? I thought that was excellent.

“We created numerous chances, and that's why I'm so pleased with the performance here.

“I mean, if we get beat next week, then again it'll go back to we've sort of not done well enough, but that's just the nature of football.

“We've started the season well. QPR wasn't a good performance in the cup. Bristol City was an excellent performance. I thought this one was even better.”
