Ben Chrisene hopes his injury struggles have been left in the rear-view mirror as he aims to prove he can nail down the starting left-back spot at Norwich City.

The 21-year-old, along with Lucien Mahovo, endured a disrupted 2025/26 campaign, with both sidelined for extended periods in a position that has proved problematic for the Canaries.

At the back end of last season, Chrisene even played through the pain barrier with a shoulder issue which eventually required surgery that delayed his pre-season return.

The England U21 international has now stepped up his progress in pre-season and is determined to prove that he can become a regular and reliable member of Philippe Clement's squad in the Championship next season.

"I'm building up nicely, which is nice," he told the Pink Un. "It's always hard, I think. We talk about the left-backs, we've got a bit of a curse at the moment with injuries.

"It's always the best thing, coming back from injury. You feel like you're progressing well, and I think that's my personal target, just to get as fit as I can. They tested me in my rehab to get as fit as I can, just so I don't miss any of the pre-season, and I can get to a point where I'm ready to start games.

"That was the main thing for me, and I think it's going well at the moment, so that's all I can do. It's always going to be mentally tough for us players, but I think it's nothing that we can't handle.

"There's talk about it, and all we can do is focus on the now and focus on getting fit and staying fit and being a player for Norwich and playing. You can't do much more, and hopefully I can do that, and I want to do that as well, and I'm determined to do that."

Given there has been so much focus on the position amid recurring injury problems, few could forgive Chrisene for feeling the pressure, but the left-back is determined to play with freedom.

"The injuries that I've had have been annoying, and the one I had last season, when I was playing through it, I was playing through a shoulder injury, which I couldn't play at my best, I couldn't play at 100pc.

"Now I've had the surgery, I've come back, and I feel like I've got nothing to worry about, so I can just play freely, and there's no real pressure," he said.

"The gaffer talks about that, where there's no pressure for us and we've just got to play our game and focus on the now and focus on the season because it's positive at the moment. I think we'll have a good start to the season."
