Oliver Glasner’s men are in the middle of a 12-day warm-weather camp on The Algarve. Having faced Blackburn Rovers in their second friendly of the summer on Wednesday, it was back on the training pitch for the Reds today (Friday). Glasner had said he hoped the former Ipswich Town man would be available to face Vitoria in a behind closed doors game on Sunday. It is surely a positive sign that he took part with his teammates in today’s session. Centre-back Murillo, winger Callum Hudson-Odoi and full-back Nicolo Savona are still working their way to fitness following their respective injuries. Murillo cut something of a frustrated figure as he did some individual work when the Post watched training, Hudson-Odoi emerged later to do the same but there was no sign of Savona. After the friendly win over Notts County last weekend, Glasner had said: "We think Callum will return quickest. And then Murillo and Savona will take a little bit of time. We always have to see the reaction after surgery, so we have to be careful. "Murillo the same. He is already training and doing good rehab sessions, but now it is increasing the intensity and getting him back to normal training.” Fresh from putting pen to paper earlier this week, it was straight into the thick of it for Xaver Schlager. The midfielder will have the chance to get to know his new teammates better during this training camp. He already knows Glasner from when the pair worked together at Wolfsburg. Reuniting with his fellow Austrian was a key driver behind Schlager’s move but he has said the ambition of the club was also a big pull. The 28-year-old looks to have settled in well. He has certainly joined a positive camp, with the players in good spirits during today’s session. The Reds boss took a relaxed approach to training starting slightly later than scheduled. But once the players were out on the pitch, it was straight down to business. Every manager has their own take on such sessions. Vitor Pereira allowed the group to have music blaring in the background, Sean Dyche started sessions by shouting “mount” as a signal for players to jump on each other’s backs. No such gimmicks on this occasion. One of the key messages Glasner seemed eager to get across was for players to “take responsibility for the pass” - no doubt in a sign of what he expects going forward.
