The Austrian has been in charge for barely a week but has already made an impact on the Reds squad. He got his tenure off to a winning start with Saturday’s 2-0 pre-season friendly win over Notts County and has quickly got key messages across to the group. Glasner arrived at the City Ground with a proven track record when it comes to winning silverware, including picking up three major trophies during his time at Crystal Palace. With that in mind, Yates is excited by the prospect of what he might be able to achieve at Forest. “I don’t like to get too excited but there have only been really positive vibes from him,” said the club captain. “Considering he has only been here a week, the information he and his staff have given us and that we have been able to take in, has been really, really good. It was nice to get that winning feeling straight away. “We have had a really positive first week. I know it is only the first week, but there have been really positive signs. “He is huge on culture - the standards we set in training, having a willingness to learn and take on ideas. He knows he is not going to come in and things will work from day one but he wants us to have that ethic every single day to work, take his ideas on and to have the belief that it is going to work. “You have seen at previous clubs that he has got the track record to back it up. It is not just words, he has actually backed it up previously. It is really, really exciting.” Glasner is Forest’s fifth manager in the space of a year, but after four passed through the City Ground doors last season the hope is for stability this time around. It will help that he has the full summer to work with his charges and the aim is to keep the core of the squad together, following Elliot Anderson’s £116 million switch to Manchester City. “Every time we get asked about new managers, they all have their little things they do. We have had some fantastic managers here before and it has not quite worked out, but I feel like there is a special feeling with Oliver,” Yates said. “It’s early days and I don’t know whether it is just the way he speaks to us in meetings or his track record, or a bit of everything - but we all have a special feeling. Things feel very stable, which is what we need. “Him being here from day one of pre-season is really important. He will have the time to get his information across and the core of the team is going to stay together. “Elliot has left but, over the years, we have seen players come and go - and it does seem quite stable. As a club we have been stacked for options in almost every area of the pitch, almost since we returned to the Premier League. “We have to trust the squad and we have people working in recruitment so I am sure we will bring the right players in. It is about getting the balance of the squad right. It is about that, rather than the individual and I am sure we will get that right.” A return to European football will be the target when the new campaign begins, after the Reds reached the Europa League semi-finals last season. But winning a cup remains the ultimate goal, something owner Evangelos Marinakis is desperate to achieve. “That is the next step for this club,” Yates added. “We have got to quarter-finals and semi-finals in the last few years, but a lot of clubs do that and it is taking the next step that propels you to the next level - getting to finals and lifting silverware. “With the ambition of the owner and bringing one of the best managers in the world to Nottingham Forest, it’s incredible. The aim is to get back into European football. We’ve had that taste of it and it’s really special.
