Little more than 12 months after he arrived Trentside from Juventus, the Italian could be on the move again. A return to his homeland looks to be a possibility as the Reds prepare to tweak head coach Vitor Pereira’s squad.

Atalanta have been eyeing up Savona for some time. Ahead of the transfer window opening next Monday (June 15), they are said to be in talks with Forest regarding a potential deal.

According to GOAL, the Reds full-back is a “concrete option” for the Serie A outfit. Targeting a move for him comes as they anticipate the departure of Marco Palestra and try to source a replacement.

With that in mind, negotiations are said to have started with the Reds. Direct contact has also reportedly been made with the player’s representatives.

Savona made 20 appearances in the Garibaldi before a knee injury ended his season prematurely. He joined the club on a five-year deal for a fee in the region of €13 million (£11m), so if Forest are able to make that money back it could be considered good business.

Arnaud Kalimuendo is another likely departure from the City Ground this summer. However, the forward’s price remains a sticking point for Eintracht Frankfurt as they work to get a deal done.

A purchase option was included when Kalimuendo joined the German side on loan in January but they now consider the reported £23m fee to be too expensive. Bringing that figure down is the aim for Eintracht, amid suggestions they are unable to spend more than £17m on a total package for the player.

German newspaper Bild report the two clubs remain in talks in an effort to find a compromise. Forest are said to have indicated a willingness to sell and Eintracht hope to raise funds by selling a number of players.

How much leeway the Reds are prepared to give remains to be seen, though. They spent £26m to bring Kalimuendo from Rennes and will not want to be left too much out of pocket.

As for potential incomings, Pereira’s midfield options will require some attention this summer - especially if Elliot Anderson departs. Forest tried to bolster that department in January but didn’t manage to get a deal over the line.

The Reds have continued to monitor the 22-year-old, though, and Sky Sports claim they “remain keen to sign him”. There is likely to be competition for the Belgian’s signature as Fulham have now emerged as potential suitors, along with Sunderland. West Ham United were also recently linked with him.

Meanwhile, it has become clear just how difficult doing a deal for Forest-linked Viery could prove to be. The Gremio centre-back has plenty of admirers but also a substantial release clause in his contract.

The Reds were credited with an interest in him last month, while Bologna and Fiorentina are also said to be keen. However, Italian publication Tuttomercatoweb have revealed Viery has a €50m (£43m) release clause in his contract.

Gremio are said to be “in no rush” to sell, having recently rebuffed a €12m (£10m) offer for the 21-year-old. The player is tied down until December 31 2029 and the indication is any attempt to “bargain” in an effort to secure his services is likely to fail.
