Head coach Oliver Glasner was coy about the future of Arnaud Kalimuendo after the Nottingham Forest attacker kicked off pre-season with a goal.

Kalimuendo scored the Reds’ second of a 2-0 victory over Notts County at Meadow Lane as the Glasner era got off to a winning start. Igor Jesus was also on the scoresheet for the visitors in their first outing of the summer.

Eintracht Frankfurt are keen to sign Kalimuendo on a permanent basis following his loan spell there last term. An option for the German outfit to sign him permanently was included in the deal but they have been trying to renegotiate the price.

It remains to be seen what will happen with the 24-year-old but for now he remains a Forest player. And Glasner was impressed with his performance against the Magpies.

Asked whether Kalimuendo could be part of his plans for the new season, the new Reds boss said: "Let's see. Every player who is here gets the chance to show up.

"So far, everybody is very ambitious and hard-working in training. Everyone deserves to play and show what they are capable of.

"He had a fantastic game today, not just with the goal he scored. He found very good positions between the lines.

"The transfer market starts to heat up. We don't really know what will happen in the next few weeks - so many things can happen. Right now he is a player of Nottingham Forest and he gets the chance, like everyone else.”

Kalimuendo headed in a cross from Dilane Bakwa to double Forest’s advantage on the day. He was part of a completely different XI to start the second half, after Jesus had put Glasner’s men in front from a terrific Morgan Gibbs-White ball before the break.

Glasner said: “When you see the two goals we scored, it was more or less exactly what we had worked on in training this week. We played quick in behind and we know that Morgan can find the spare player with one touch. It was great movement from Igor and the position of Omari (Hutchinson) helped to create the space, which was something we worked on.

“The second goal was the same. It was a great cross from Dilane and also a great run from Arnaud, getting more bodies into the box. There were many positive aspects. It was a very good first test, all the players got 45 minutes which is what we had planned.”
