Stoke City’s Emre Tezgel has joined Wycombe Wanderers on a season-long loan.

And the club’s sporting director Jonathan Walters believes the League One move is “the natural next step” for the 20-year-old forward after a successful loan at League Two Crewe last season, scoring 15 goals.

Walters said: “After a successful spell in League Two with Crewe last season, we feel League One is the natural next step in Emre’s development.

“It will provide another strong test of his qualities and an excellent opportunity to continue challenging himself.

“Following discussions with Emre and his representatives, we agreed that this loan was the right move at this stage.

“Regular football with Wycombe Wanderers will be invaluable to his growth, and we’re looking forward to seeing him build on the progress he made last season.

“We wish Emre every success for the season ahead and will be following his progress and performances closely.”

“We are happy to welcome Emre to the club on a season-long loan from Stoke City,” said Tom Stockwell, Wanderers’ director of football strategy and data intelligence.

“Having already gained experience in the EFL with MK Dons and Crewe Alexandra in League Two, we are confident Emre is ready to have an impact for Wycombe in League One.

“Emre is a clinical finisher, with 15 goals in all competitions for Crewe last season. We showed last season as a team we create a high volume of chances and we are sure that Emre will have the opportunity to score a lot of goals here.

“He also works very hard in and out of possession to contribute to the team.

“Emre links straight up with the team and will be assessed over the next couple of days to see if he is ready to play any minutes on Saturday against Portsmouth; hopefully there will not be long to wait to see Emre in action at Adams Park.”
