# Stoke City and Owls stay grounded after match as bird dent delays flight

Stoke City enjoyed a whopping 6-0 win over League One side Sheffield Wednesday at the weekend, but they didn't have as much luck on the wing when they were trying to get home.

That's because the Potters had to face lengthy airport delays after a bird hit the airplane, causing a dent to the wing, and meaning that the plane wouldn't be able to take off.

The delays to the flight meant that instead of taking of at 10.30am on Sunday Morning, the team eventually left the Wien-Schwechat airport at 1am THIS morning.

Interestingly, the rest of the flight was taken up by the Owls staff and team, probably making that waiting lounge in the airport a bit of an awkward encounter!

Speaking about the game, manager Mark Robins felt his side had a good workout against Wednesday, in really hot and humid conditions

He said: “We’ve worked really hard and then, lo and behold, when we're playing the game it's the hottest day of the week, so it was tough for the players.

“It was a good run out; we scored some goals and had to defend too.

“I thought, all in all, it was a decent workout and another step along the way.”

“The first team we played against, they went really strong. I think that was the strongest they could go,” Robins added.

“Their second team has a lot of youngsters, and ours contained some international players and some youngsters as well, so there was a decent mix.

“Freddie Anderson had flown out and acquitted himself really well, along with Tyler Martin, Gabriel Kelly and Ruben Curley, so there was a young flavour to us in that game and they did a lot of good bits.”

Meanwhile, the club has announced an extensive list of traffic measures for the new season, all aimed to ease congestion around the bet365 Stadium, particularly around leaving the ground.

The club have worked with Traffic management specialists CSP to come up with revised plans for the new season, and they will be in action for the first time at Tuesday's pre-season friendly against Everton (7.45pm).
