Stoke are looking to cause a surprise against one of the bookies' favourites for promotion, despite a four-point deduction for misdemeanours last term - and an FA charge still hanging over manager Tonda Eckert.

Two players have been added to the squad in the last couple of days, both joining from Ipswich Town. Striker George Hirst, aged 27, has signed a three-year contract having won three promotions during a three-and-a-half year stint at Portman Road. Right-back Ben Johnson, aged 26, has joined on a season-long loan.

There is still time left in the transfer window to put finishing or balancing touches to a squad that will represent the Potters through a tough Championship campaign.

We could have come away with the three poitns today but we didn't manage to stay on the front foot even when the changes were made. It's disappointing, it was disappointing in the end and even more so when you get a man sent off like that with a man sent off for a clear offside. It was clearly offside."

He added: "It was a great finish from Ethan Galbraith, a good move down that right side. We had other bits and pieces where you had a bit more quality. You get the ball into good areas. George had one that didn't quite come down for him. He's hit it and it got blocked because he had to wait for it to come down a bit.

"Junho looked dangerous. I thought he looked neat and tidy and a threat. We had the ball in good areas and got some decent quality into the penalty area. I still think we need to get bodies into the box more. Sorba has got to be in a poisition inside the posts to go and tap in but hopefully he'll find himself in there because he can score. He's a really good finisher when he's inside there.

"We're hoping for a bit more of that and a little bit more luck this week."

CommentsPeter Smith22nd Aug17:55 BSTSouthampton won it with their subs whereas Stoke lost momentum?Robins: "We did. We lost energy in areas where I thought we had been really good before the changes. Second half they started to have more of the ball as energy started to dissipate. We know that we're in a position where they will get fitter and stronger - you just want it now, need it now. Those players who have come in are just a little bit down on their minutes, George certainly. I thought Ben was brilliant both at right and left. Had we had a little bit more in terms of physicality I think we would have got something out of that game."

CommentsPeter Smith22nd Aug17:53 BSTPost-match press conferenceMark Robins: "We were good first half. It was a little bit harsh to go one down but we had started off pretty brightly and that's more like how I want to see us play. I thought we grew into it as well. We got a goal back, which was well worked, and I thought we were in the game - more so than last year, to be fair, which is pleasing - but you know you're in a situation when you're not quite physically there yet with some individuals so those changes are going to have to be made.

"You're hoping that the players who come in are going to pick up from where the others left off and that didn't happen today. It ended up costing us the game.

"We had one situation on the edge of the box where Divin ends up on his left foot because we followed the ball and not the man. He ends up getting it on his left foot, which is where we all know he likes it. If you give him a sight of goal there he is likely to put it in, that's his favourite shot. He's scored that.

"They end up getting a third, which is offside, and i would hope that they would see sense and overturn the red even if they can't overturn the goal that killed the game in the end. They've made an error there. But it was a second yellow so it costs us even more."
