The Swans were reported on Tuesday to have won the race for the highly-rated Zulte Waregem winger, and the deal has now moved a significant step closer.

According to transfer journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Swansea have agreed a package worth €7.3million (£6.3m) with the Belgian club.

The deal is said to include an initial fee of €6.5m (£5.6m), with a further €800,000 (£683,000) in performance-related add-ons, while Zulte Waregem have also negotiated a 15% sell-on clause.

Opoku is said to have travelled to Munich on Wednesday before making his way to Austria, where Swansea are holding their pre-season training camp, to undergo his medical ahead of completing the transfer.

The 20-year-old is expected to become Vitor Matos' fourth signing of the summer following the arrivals of Stephen Welsh, Moussa Yeo and Leo Walta.

As reported this week, Swansea look to have beaten competition from across Europe to secure the winger's signature.

Premier League newcomers Hull City were among the clubs credited with an interest, while Serie A side Genoa, La Liga outfit Real Sociedad, Turkish side Trabzonspor and Russian club Krasnodar were also reportedly tracking the Ghana international.

Opoku has enjoyed a rapid rise since joining Zulte Waregem from Ghanaian side Great Corinthians in 2024.

After helping the Belgian club win promotion, he carried that form into the top flight, scoring 10 goals and providing six assists in 34 league appearances last season.

Capable of playing anywhere across the front three, the right-footed attacker is most comfortable operating from the left wing, where his pace, direct running and eye for goal have made him one of Belgium's brightest young talents.

He also made his senior debut for Ghana earlier this year and was included in the Black Stars' preliminary World Cup squad before narrowly missing out on selection for the tournament in North America.

The move represents another statement of intent from Swansea, with head coach Matos understood to be a long-time admirer of the winger's profile as he continues reshaping his squad ahead of the new Championship campaign.

The latest update comes as Swansea also continue to work on a deal for New Zealand international Elijah Just, with the Swans looking to add further attacking firepower before the new season gets under way.
