# Udinese midfielder Payero to fly in to join Watford

Midfielder Martin Payero is set to arrive at Watford tomorrow (Friday) ahead of sealing a deal to sign from Udinese.

The midfielder is expected to complete a trio of signings from Gino Pozzo's Serie A club, with left-back Jordan Zemura and forward Iker Bravo also set to join.

Bravo was at London Colney earlier this week for medical tests and Payero will fly in for the same on Friday.

The club's view is that, with finances tight, recruiting from within the multi-club model makes sense - though Scott Duxbury's vision for a more "domestic feel" to the club this season has so far only been backed up by a move for former Bournemouth defender Zemura.

It has been reported by Sky Sports this week that approaches for the likes of Adam Webster, Billy Mitchell, Solly March and Josh Maja have fallen down over salary demands.

Payero does have fleeting experience of the Championship, too, having played 13 league games for Middlesbrough in the 2021/22 season, but has made his name more at Udinese since.

He signed for the Friuli in 2023 and played 56 matches until last summer, when he was loaned to Cremonese and featured 25 times.

Payero is a creative, technical midfielder - and in an interview with Caught Offside last year he revealed that his style of play is inspired by Juan Roman Riquelme.

The Argentine will add to a midfield united currently featuring Imran Louza, Edoardo Bove, Hector Kyprianou and Edo Kayembe, though it is anticipated that Louza will leave this summer having been very peripheral in pre-season so far.
