Davies has 19 senior players back at base, with six away on international duty, and intends to keep them match fit with a friendly.

“It's different,” Davies said of the three-week break. “I probably prefer it in the sense of having two international breaks rather than three.

“The way we will approach it is we will treat it as a normal international break and, in what is the free weekend, we will actually have a friendly game. We will replicate what we believe would be a Championship game or a decent-level game in a behind closed doors friendly.

“That will just be treated in terms of our preparation and recovery like a game. It's too early to be giving loads and loads of time off so we will just treat that free weekend as a game.

"We've spoken to another club and I'm pretty sure that's all going ahead. There will be other teams (doing it), that's why we've got together with this team. They have the same situation so it prepares us well for the West Brom match."

Blues’ players have enjoyed some time off this week but they are set to train as normal in the build-up to their friendly next weekend.

Davies will be without key players James Beadle (England U21s), Bright Osayi-Samuel (Nigeria), Paik Seung-ho (South Korea), Jhon Solis (Colombia), Liam Millar (Canada) and August Priske (Denmark U21s) and but he hopes to welcome back Max Bird, Taylor Gardner-Hickman and Demarai Gray before the West Brom game.
