# Wrexham held to a 1-1 draw by Watford at The Racecourse

It was the second Championship game of the season, and first at home, and both matches have ended in the same scoreline.

The Hornets took the lead in the first half but lively wing-back Danny Imray equalised for the Reds on 22 minutes.

Despite having good chances, Phil Parkinson's men were unable to take them and it finished 1-1 for the second game running.

Parkinson made one change from the side which started the draw at Cardiff City on the opening weekend of the Championship season.

Summer signing Ben Whiteman came into midfield for Matty James who limped off against the Bluebirds but was fit enough to take his place on the substitutes bench.

Watford had the first chance but Amin Nabizada's low drive was comfortably saved by Anthony Patterson.

Wrexham responded with keeper Federico Ravaglia only able to get finger-tips to Imray's cross, George Thomason put the ball back into the danger zone and Ollie Rathbone fired over.

But Watford were posing a threat going forward and the Hornets took the lead in the 14th minute.

Omar Haktab Traoré sent in a cross from the right and Luca Kjerrumgaard headed past Patterson.

However, Wrexham equalised after 22 minutes.

Lewis O'Brien broke and fed Kieffer Moore whose cross reached Imray and the wing-back found the back of the net from inside the area with a deflected shot.

There was soon another chance for Imray when Moore's cross from the by-line reached him but the wing-back hit the outside of the post with a scuffed effort.

Jordan Zamura's free-kick was saved by Patterson in added time while Moore's attempt from Nathan Broadhead's cross was deflected behind for a corner as it remained all-square at the break.

Less than 60 seconds of the second half had gone when Wrexham came close to going ahead.

Imray was put through by Rathbone and his shot was parried by Ravaglia.

Callum Doyle was always stretching and he headed over from O'Brien's corner but Watford continued to ask questions on the counter.

Wrexham went close when Thomason struck the crossbar from close range after getting on the end of Rathbone's cross.

It was the Reds who were creating opportunities and Whiteman's shot deflected over the bar following James' corner and O'Brien headed over from a fantastic position after Zak Vyner put the ball into the six-yard box.

But the late pressure never led to a winner and both sides had to settle for a point.
