Blackburn Rovers finalise Tony Mowbray

Blackburn Rovers have confirmed the appointment of Gareth Stewart as their new first-team goalkeeping coach.

Stewart joins from Bournemouth and replaces Ben Benson, whose departure the club have now confirmed. They thanked the long-serving coach for his 'dedication and contributions' after more than a decade at Ewood Park.

Their new recruit returns to Lancashire having started his footballing career with Rovers back in 1997. He represented England at youth level and was with Rovers for two years before moving to Bournemouth.

Stewart finished his playing days and began his coaching journey at Yeovil United before returning to the Cherries. He began with the Academy and Under-21s before being promoted to the first-team six years ago.

This move is likely to finalise Rovers' recruitment drive for first-team staff. Mike Dodds and Damien Johnson will assist Tony Mowbray, with Nacho Sancho remaining from Valerien Ismael's tenure as Head of Performance.

Paul Butler was promoted from the Under-18s to replace Gregory Vignal as Under-21s boss. The club are yet to confirm who will lead the younger age group.

Steve Curwood has arrived as Chief Executive Officer and has asked for supporters' questions ahead of a sit-down with the club's media team next week.
