"I love him!" - Scott over the moon for Truffert

Bournemouth Echo · By Alexander Smith

ALEX Scott praised the mentality of the Cherries team and admitted his love for Adrien Truffert, who scored his first goal in a Bournemouth shirt to secure a 2-1 win over Newcastle on Saturday.

Scott was once again pivotal at the centre of midfield in the north east, and continued a rich vein of form that has put him in contention for the England World Cup squad.

Truffert, too, will be eyeing up a spot on the plane to North America in the summer with the French squad, and he was a standout at St James’ Park.

Asked about the left, back, Scott told the Daily Echo how pleased he was for him to score: “I love him!

“I'm so close to him as well. I'm always playing around with him. The French guys, we're always taking the mick out of Adri!

“So yeah, I couldn't be happier for him. He's a good finisher when he gets in and around it, but probably doesn't do it enough.

“It's tough, obviously. Left back, defensively, he's very strong at. But yeah, he made his way in the box and finished it off. So yeah, really happy for him.”

Truffert’s goal came at the end of a 15-pass move, after Marcus Tavernier’s opener first half opener was also well-worked.

Scott said often the team’s ability to construct passing moves like that is overlooked: “We know we're capable of doing that.

“I feel like the focus on us is really about pressing nonstop and it's almost overlooked how good we can be on the ball and the talent we have in the squad.

“I think the first goal, Rayan, obviously we know what he can do. Tav making the back post again, which is brilliant.

“So yeah, lovely move. Same last week against Arsenal. And yeah, we're full of confidence at the minute and we've got to take that into Wednesday against Leeds.”

Reflecting on a run of form that sees the Cherries 13 games unbeaten heading into the final five games of the campaign, Scott said everything is positive around the club.

“We're playing well, we're confident at the minute, and I think that showed there today,” he said.

“Tough place to come again, tough team to play against, but yeah, we dug in and got the three points.”

The midfielder hailed the team’s ‘really strong mentality’, as they were able to hit back after Newcastle had equalised and the Cherries snatched the winner and the points.

“It's brilliant,” Scott said on the group’s mindset.

“It has been all season, to be fair. And even around Christmas time we were struggling. And I think since then, the start of the year, we've been brilliant.

“Second half they came at us. They were good. We knew they were going to do that with the fans here. And they were pushed to every ball.

“But we dealt with it well. I felt like we were in control for most of the game. So, yeah, really good signs. And we take that into the next five games.”
