Cherries

THE Cherries ‘have to accept’ the decision to rule out Evanilson’s late goal against Leeds, which would have confirmed the points for Bournemouth before a late equaliser forced them to settle for a draw.

That would have made it 3-1 in stoppage time and would have won the game, but Sean Longstaff volleyed home minutes later to make it 2-2, and that is how it finished.

Members of the Cherries team, Alex Scott, Ryan Christie and Alex Jimenez, all posted their frustration that the goal had been disallowed on Instagram after the game.

Christie said “can we score with arms now?” while Scott and Jimenez simply posted laughing emojis.

Andoni Iraola drew comparisons to the disallowed Dango Ouattara goal at the start of last season, where it hit his shoulder and went in.

Bournemouth were given an apology for that incident, but Iraola said he did not want to argue over the Evanilson decision.

He brought up again the second Leeds goal, which he said should have been ruled out for offside too, as Joel Piroe was stood in the way of Djordje Petrovic.

“I suppose everyone has thought in the Dango goal, no?” Iraola told the Daily Echo when asked about the Evanilson goal.

“From past season against Newcastle, you score with the shirt, they disallow it, but they accepted that mistake.

“We should have two points more past season also.

“But I don't want even to argue about this because the other one, the offside, okay, where you stop the camera, a little bit later, the contact, the machine says it’s 1 millimetre or whatever, you have to accept.

“I don't want even to argue this one because otherwise we are going to get messy. Explain why you didn't disallow because Piroe is clearly affecting the play, no? So I will try not to argue about the other ones.”
