Reaction to St Pauli goal

MARCO Rose was pleased with what he saw from his Cherries side as they comfortably beat St Pauli 4-1 in their first pre-season game under the new boss.

It was a slightly slow start to the game at the Saalfelden Arena in Austria, as St Pauli took the lead and looked the sharper of the two sides, having been on pre-season for longer than their English opponents.

But Bournemouth turned the game around before half-time, with goals from Ben Gannon-Doak and Harold William, and stretched their lead to three goals with two in quick succession after the break, from Daniel Jebbison and Bafode Diakite.

The Bundesliga 2 side represented a good test for Bournemouth after their relegation from the German top flight last season, and Rose was happy with the game.

He told the Daily Echo: "I am pleased because we trained really hard last couple of days and we started in Bournemouth, now we are here in Austria.

"Many sessions, long sessions, but I appreciate the effort the guys bring in the sessions, the energy.

"And yeah, I'm totally fine with the things we did today."

Asked what he was looking for from his Bournemouth side against St Pauli, Rose’s answer was simple.

"To see Bournemouth," he said.

Rose added: "To be aggressive, to be intense, winning balls, and yeah, being always ready.

"And it was a tough start, we were 1-0 down, but the reaction was top and right. And so we changed the game, and at the end we controlled the game.

"Second half, I think we had chances but didn't concede chances. So again, with our first test match after so many hard sessions, I'm very pleased."

Rose said St Pauli’s earlier start in pre-season was the explanation for the slow Cherries start.

"That's why I'm much more pleased with this game because St Pauli is starting [the league season] I think in two weeks," he said.

"So again, now we have to continue.

"At the end it's just a friendly, but of course for a new coach with some new approaches, it's always good to have a good start, to believe in the things we do."

The next test for the Cherries is another German side, this time Bundesliga side Augsburg.
