"We seemed really attacking" - Continental Cherries fans impressed with St Pauli win

CHERRIES fans who had made the trip to the Saalfelden Arena were left impressed by what they had seen from Marco Rose’s Cherries.

In the first game of the new boss’s time at the club, they comfortably beat St Pauli 4-1, thanks to goals from Ben Gannon-Doak, Harold William, Daniel Jebbison, and Bafode Diakite.

Dan Courtney is from Poole but now lives in Vienna, and took the opportunity to watch Bournemouth for the first time since they were in the Championship.

"I don't get to see the Cherries play very often," he told the Daily Echo.

"The last time I saw them play, they were in the Championship. It was the last game in the Championship, so I'm very happy to see them here.

"I live in Vienna, so I jumped on the train this morning, four and a half hours. I'm here for a few days.

"And what a great experience to get to see them up close and personal. And yeah, it was a really great result as well. They played really well.

"You never know how the first game's going to be. It's a friendly game, but I think everyone gave their all and it was really enjoyable."

Asked his thoughts after a first look at Rose’s Cherries, he said: "It seemed very front-footed again.

"A few players stood out to me. I would say especially Ben Gannon-Doak. I think he had a really, really good game. And obviously Jebbo [Daniel Jebbison] with his goal.

"And yeah, we seemed really attacking.

"First half was slightly trickier. They got the early goal, but after that I think we were pretty comfortable and yeah, just confident, happy and yeah, good fun."

He’s hoping to get to some of the Europa League games this season, and would like to see some local sides to him come out of the hat for Bournemouth on August 28.

"Anything around Austria, Germany," he said.

"Like when we got into Europe, I was so happy because as a Bournemouth fan living abroad, it's impossible to get tickets at home.

"And now I've got the chance to see them somewhere in Europe, I'll be there straight away.

"I've been a fan since I was five years old and thinking of them back in League Two at Dean Court and now the chance to see them in Europe, it's just amazing."

Another fan who lives on the continent is Noah Haubrich.

A German, he had a slightly unusual introduction to Bournemouth, as he’s not from the area.

"I played the game FIFA 2009, and in the game, the only country, it was England with most divisions.

"So like in Germany, you only could pick from Division One or Two, the teams, and for me it was very fun to pick from England a team in League Two, I think it's division four, and to climb up with the team.

"So, I picked just a team with the logo I liked the most. And yeah, it was Bournemouth.

"When I played the team, there was one player, Brett Pitman, I liked the name so much because of Brad Pitt, and he was my best player on the team.

"And ever since, I followed Bournemouth in real life also."

It was a four-hour train ride for Noah, and he liked what he saw from the Cherries.

"It was pretty good," he said.

"I mean, the first 20 minutes, St. Pauli was a little bit better, and scored the first goal, but after that, very, very good game."

He, too, will be looking to get some tickets for Europa League games.

"I was really, really stoked that Bournemouth reached sixth place for the qualification for Europe, and maybe I get some tickets for Europe," he said.

"So I hope for an opponent in Germany maybe, or like France. I don't know, somewhere close so I can go there."
