Coventry City banning orders: Liverpool fans top Home Office ban list in 2025/26

A total of 12 Coventry City fans were handed banning orders last season, according to Home Office figures. The figures show a total of 29 banning orders were in place at the end of the 2025/2026 season, of which 12 were new that season.

The figures also show there were were 33 football-related arrests and other forms of police action relating to Coventry City fans. Of these, 10 were in relation to public disorder and six were related to violent disorder. Four concerned throwing missiles and five were connected to alcohol offences. There was also one instance of possession of pyrotechnics.

Liverpool supporters received more banning orders than fans of any other English football club during the last campaign.

A total of 37 new banning orders were handed to Liverpool fans throughout the 2025/26 season, according to figures published by the Home Office, which releases such data annually.

Banning orders are imposed by courts to prevent individuals from attending matches where there is a risk of violence or disorder. Those subject to such orders are barred from all regulated fixtures in the UK and may also be required to surrender their passport to police ahead of overseas regulated matches and tournaments.

Everton supporters received the second highest number of banning orders last season, with 31, followed by West Ham on 30, Arsenal and Chelsea with 26 apiece, and Manchester United with 25.

The overall total of new banning orders issued across England and Wales rose marginally to 701 in 2025/26, compared with 685 the previous year, though this remains notably lower than the 825 recorded the season before that.

Football-related arrests and other police interventions fell during the same period, with 1,964 recorded across England and Wales in 2025/26 — down from 2,037 the season prior and 2,584 in the 2023/24 campaign.

Of those arrests, 331 were linked to individuals entering stadiums in possession of class A drugs.

Just seven arrests were made for racist and indecent chanting last season, a sharp decline from 33 the previous year. Despite this decline, police records showed a rise in racist incidents last season.

A total of 356 racist hate crimes were documented by police last season, marking the highest figure ever recorded.

Homophobic hate crimes similarly hit unprecedented levels with 144 incidents last season, while religious hate crimes reached a record 28.
