Kitching, Andrews, Rapha, Brau, Bassette, Perry, Dovin - Coventry loan watch

Coventry City currently have seven players out on loan, six of whom can be considered as seniors.

Liam Kitching is the most high profile of the Sky Blues who have been sent out to get valuable game time at other clubs following the club’s promotion to the Premier League.

Defender Kitching was joined by goalkeeper Oliver Dovin and winger Raphael in departing the CBS Arena with deadline day moves to Sheffield United, Leyton Orient and Burton Albion, respectively. Left-back Miguel Brau had earlier secured a move to Portuguese side Academico de Viseu while Kai Andrews is out at Oxford United, centre-back Callum Perry at Cambridge United and striker Norman Bassette at Belgian side KVC Westerlo.

Here’s a round-up of how they are getting on so far.

It was almost a memorable debut for centre-back Liam Kitching who had a goal disallowed on his first showing for the Blades who lost 3-1 at home to Norwich City in the Championship.

The 26-year-old played the full 90 minutes at Bramall Lane where he scored 5.5 in the Sheffield Star’s player ratings, with football writer Danny Hall saying: “The debutant gave Unitedites an early glimpse of what they can expect from the Coventry City loanee with a decisive early header but one at the other end looked to have made a bigger impact when he nodded in Peck’s corner at the back post.

“But the whistle had already gone for an apparent ‘foul’ on the ‘keeper, who ran straight into Bamford and went down to win the decision. Saw yellow late in the first half for poleaxing Toure, who had moments earlier incensed United players and fans with his celebration after scoring.”

The young midfielder made his first start for Oxford United, helping them to a thumping 4-0 win over Leicester City at the King Power Stadium where he played the full 90 minutes. That was a follow-up to his debut from the bench in a 3-1 defeat at Huddersfield the previous week.

Raphael Borge Rodrigues

The Australian winger made his first start for Burton Albion, helping the Brewers to a 2-2 draw with Cambridge United at the Pirelli Stadium where he played the first 62 minutes before being substituted.

The young defender was up against Raphael in the same game, helping Cambridge United to a valuable away point. The 20-year-old has quickly established himself as a regular in the League One side where he has started all five league matches and made seven showings in all competitions.

The Sweden international goalkeeper joined League One Leyton Orient on deadline day but was an unused sub in his opening fixture for the O’s who drew 1-1 at Luton Town where Nathan Baxter was in goal. Looks like the 24-year-old might have to wait for his opportunity to get in.

The Spanish left-back joined Portuguese top flight side Academico de Viseu last week and made his debut from the bench in the 74th minute of a 1-0 win at Gil Vicente at the weekend.

Norman Bassette

The lively striker joined Westerlo in the Belgian top flight at the beginning of the season and has made a promising start by scoring two goals in his first five games for the club.
