Trabzonspor chief explains Eren Mert amid Hull City interest transfer man

Trabzonspor deputy chairman Zeyyat Kafkas has explained why Eren Mert decided to resign from the club, amid interest from a host of clubs, including Hull City.

Mert has been working as the Turkish club's chief scout for the past three years and was heralded as doing a fine job in Trabzon before he opted to leave Papaya Park earlier this week, in a move that left supporters frustrated.

City are keen on adding the vastly experienced Mert to their recruitment team to work under incoming sporting director Okan Özkan and head of recruitment, Martin Hodge, as they prepare for life back in the Premier League.

Reports in Turkey earlier this week suggested Mert and head coach Fatih Tekke did not see eye-to-eye, and the 48-year-old wanted to bring in his own man.

The Tigers, who sacked Jared Dublin last week, want to bolster their international recruitment arm in a bid to tap into markets abroad, and not just be reliant on players either based in the UK or ones that have a history here.

"Financial matters came up. He had very serious demands," Kafkas told reporters. "There is no one bigger than Trabzonspor. Some might call this power poisoning, some might say it's his right. Some might say he received a different offer. Anything is possible.

"This is true for a player as well. We immediately part ways with anyone who does not want to continue their association with Trabzonspor, or who has even the slightest doubt within themselves."
