Hull City face anxious wait over trio of injuries from Man United victory

Daily Mail · Barry Cooper

Hull City face an anxious wait to find out the damage sustained by Nobel Mendy, Semi Ajayi and skipper Lewie Coyle, who were all forced off in the win over Manchester United on Saturday.

Both Ajayi and Mendy, who scored a goal each in the first half to seal a deserved 2-0 win over United at the MKM Stadium, were forced off just after the hour, with Lucas Herrington and Paddy McNair coming on in their place.

Captain Coyle, who had been struggling with an ankle injury in pre-season, left the action shortly after those two with a calf issue, and the trio will be assessed over the next 48 hours and are naturally considered doubts for Tuesday's Carabao Cup game.

Mendy complained of an abductor issue in training on Friday, but was passed fit to play, and it's hoped he will recover without any issue and be available for the weekend trip to Coventry City.

The greater concern surrounds Ajayi, who was imperious in his work before being forced off after complaining of a hamstring issue, which is naturally a major concern given his struggles in recent seasons.

City are already nursing a host of injuries to key men and can ill afford to lose any of those three players, all of whom played a huge role in an impressive opening-day victory, the club's first-ever Premier League win against United.

The Tigers expect to have Hidemasa Morita available for the Carabao Cup trip to Stoke City on Tuesday night. Boss Sergej Jakirovic had suggested the Japan international midfielder could be included on the bench against United, but instead, he trained in Cottingham as he recovers from injury with a view to being involved in the Potteries.
