Sergej Jakirovic unhappy after Hull City's 'unacceptable' Charlton loss

Daily Mail · Barry Cooper

City were a goal down after 20 minutes when Charlie Kelman was allowed to curl in a beauty, but John Egan's header got them back on terms on the stroke of half-time after a really poor opening period.

While they had moments in the second half, another fine strike from Jayden Fevrier sealed a deserved victory for the hosts, who confirmed their survival while relegating Oxford United.

"I think that we played much better in the second half than the first one," Jakirovic told Hull Live. "First half we were not so active, we played just at the end when the half is over. We needed to be brave on the ball, to take responsibility, take risks in some part of the pitch.

"The [first] goal we conceded is perfect [for them], but we can stop this; we have to defend it better.

"Then we equalised through from a corner, which is very good for us because we didn't show anything in the first half.

"Then, with some substitutions, especially with Belloumi, we had much better situations through him, especially.

"I don't know how many times we entered their box, but the lack of better passes, better decisions so that we can score, I think for six or seven minutes we had a lot of pressure on them, but you must score the goal in these moments.

"The second goal, it's unbelievable, it's unacceptable that this guy is alone. He's dribbled through three players - I think it's too far away from me - of course, he scored the goal, and then we tried everything, but this is football; we missed our opportunities, our chances. Congratulations to Charlton."

City's worst run of form has come at the worst possible time, with the Tigers without a win in their last six.

Jakirovic admits the chances of City getting in the play-offs are now slim, but it's now out of their hands.

"I think that every team in this league has had this moment in the season. Unfortunately, we have now this moment. If you can't win one game from seven, then everything is very clear.

"We must be satisfied with this season and the end, of course, now it's frustrating, but after the season, when you look back, it will be a very good season for us.

"Now we will see what will happen today, tomorrow, and then we will see if we need something in the last round, but now it's not in our hands, so we will see."
